Beat licence matrix
Can I remove the producer tag?
Free (tagged) licence
On the Free (tagged) tier, release without the producer tag is not permitted as these agreements are ordinarily written. Paid tiers deliver an untagged file. Free tiers require the tag to remain, which is the entire consideration the producer receives.
The trap
Editing the tag out of a free download is the clearest possible breach and the easiest for a producer to detect and act on.
What to check in your agreement
Whether an untagged file is actually delivered, rather than merely permitted.
The same question on every other tier
| Licence tier | Release without the producer tag |
|---|---|
| Basic (MP3) | Permitted |
| Premium (WAV) | Permitted |
| Trackout / Stems | Permitted |
| Unlimited lease | Permitted |
| Exclusive rights | Permitted |
What this tier is
A promotional lease. The producer tag stays in the record and commercial use is usually not granted at all. Typical price: $0.
Scope limit. This models the STANDARD form of each tier. Any individual agreement overrides it. Where a cell says 'depends', the answer is genuinely contract-specific and no general resource can resolve it.
